(Where this instrument was handcrafted) The Shires company was originally established as a boutique Trombone Manufacture, producing only Custom Trombones. The instrument you are looking at here was 100% made in Hopedale, MA U. It was crafted by individuals that were committed to unparalleled quality without compromise. The components are all some of the more popular components produced by Shires. The bell is a BII 1Y bell. This bell was the second Bass Trombone taper option that Shires unveiled on approx 2001. The BII is a bit larger than the original Bass bell taper, later called the BI bell. The 1Y means that it is yellow brass construction (70/30) and the 1 means it is a soldered bead. The wire is yellow brass. This bell provides a beautiful rich, resonant sound, with a lot of core, and focus. This works well for a majestic Symphonic sound, or for a powerful big band chair that requires a solid punch. The Handslide is a B62NYC, which means it is a. 562 bore, the most popular size for bass bone players, with light weight nickel outer tubes and a yellow brass Handslide crook. This provides quick response, excellent responsiveness, and superb flexibility. The valve section found on this instrument is Shires most premium valve option. The in-Line (Independent) TruBore Valves provide one of the most open and free blowing on the market. Designed by Steve Shires in 2004, and eventually patented, the TruBore provides a completely straight air passage in the open state of the valves. You could drop a pencil thru the ports! The valve action is very short and quick, and the internally enclosed stop arm provides a less problematic solution mechanically. The instrument you are looking at here is in superb cosmetic and mechanical condition. The instrument has been professionally cleaned, and the slide aligned. There are no signs of the horn ever sustaining any damage, and no signs of being ever repaired. Only a few mute dings that have been rolled out.
