Selmer Signet Special Trumpet 1970 – Reconditioned – Case & Selmer S Mouthpiece M Bore. 445 – Serial# 50. Nickle Silver bell really gives this horn some punch, it plays really well. Lacquer at 60%, obvious signs of use, bell tail and taper required dent work, 2nd slide knob is a replacement. Valves feel great with excellent compression and slides are all smooth. 3rd slide moves nicely and caps all thread easily. Horn comes with a Selmer S mouthpiece and a later model Selmer Bach case in good condition showing wear around exterior perimeter. UpYourBrass shop policies are to offer only inspected, repaired, thoroughly cleaned, detailed horns. Horn is dis-assembled and inspected, soaked in an organic de-greasing solution and scrubbed. Body, valves and components are treated in an organic chem clean with Tesch products (Tesch is recommended by NAPBIRT). Hand-lapped valves and chambers (This process can take up to an hour). Complete detail of all components, hot water scrubbed and prepped for assembly. Valves aligned, pads and springs replaced as needed. Play tested and final inspected before listing for sale. Clean your instrument regularly (especially lead-pipe and tuning slide) and have a chem-clean or ultrasonic clean done every two years. Vintage cases are all disinfected, cleaned and sanitized but there may be a residual horn smell in any old case. UpYourBrass Policies (please read). 1950’s #53xxx SELMER SUPER BALANCED ACTION TENOR saxophone – factory relacquered which has NOT in ANY way, affected the sound quality — or — integrity of this horn, perhaps there is a misconception about that. I have shown pictures on the tarnish lacquer, but you really have to look for it. I have tried to picture the areas that show any wear. Please come over to play this gorgeous Selmer SBA early 1950’s tenor saxophone — in person and play it because It sounds unbelievable and you want to ensure this horn is for you you need to feel assured it is the right one for your style. I have heard many different styles of jazz played on this horn, so whatever is your thing- try it out! When I was at Berklee in the 1980’s everyone was imitating John Coltrane, so if that’s your thing – do it! It has a big sound which is great for any kind of gig or show. It was played in swing era, jazz big band, small ensemble jazz groups music venues. It has been overhauled and always maintained by a top level repair professional that we used for years on many of our 100 antique and vintage horns in our collection. My late husband, a well known professional, jazz musician who performed primarily in NEW ENGLAND and earlier in his career, NEW YORK was a renowned appraiser and collector as well as performer. This was his primary horn. I will be happy to answer and respond to pertinent questions or have you try it out gladly. SELMER SUPER BALANCED ACTION TENOR SAXOPHONE (see serial number/dates) 1950’s. GORGEOUS condition THE NYLON Selmer COVER does show wear (black nylon cover) has protected the leather case well;zipper works, the clarinet CASE inside the TENOR chesterfield case has a small tear on the back side. Interior of CHESTERFIELD ORIGINAL CASE IS beautiful. Selmer Series 9 professional overhauled clarinet (the corks need greasing as they are new). Box of saxophone and clarinet reeds. Selmer Paris Super Balanced Action SBA Tenor Saxophone (1950) on the nose. Exceptional Condition Exceptional Condition. Once in a lifetime opportunity! Positively John Coltrane era! Everything is Original and as close to mint as you are ever going to get. Note: Since I listed this item, I had it repadded and corked By Hammer Music’s Steve Moyer, who has worked for Mike Hammer for over 30 years. The resonators are all original. Corks, Pads, and felt has been replaced and the action has been adjusted for optimum playability. Now the horn plays better than new with professional setup is all. I kinda regret having anything done but I had every intention of playing this horn but since then, I have had a change of heart. It’s too beautiful for me to be bouncing around out there playing, so I have decided to cash it on other things that are necessary. All of the pictures were taken before the pads were replaced so you can see that everything was absolutely original down to the smallest detail. My instructor persuaded me to have the pads replaced simply because they were too dry to get the full beauty out of the horn, and because they along with everything about this horn is 72 years old. This horn have hardly any use at all, so it did not need an overhaul. (It was already tight). Only to be refreshed and oiled because of it’s age. I have the fresh receipt for the work order. It is ready for use. Rich man’s horn. Don’t need no big story for this one. The case is just as beautiful as the horn. (Afraid to use it). The old man who turned this horn in, out there in Iowa, had it since he was a lad. He played it in school and then quit. He put it in the closet and there it stayed for 70 years of it’s 72 years upon the face of the earth. My instructor and his wife said that ” it’s like having a 72 year old new horn”. Said that I should hold onto it and cash it in on my retirement. With all said and done, it will take you another 72 years to find another one in this mint condition, at this price. You may have to fly in to see this one. I have never seen one like it in all of my 42 years of collecting, and don’t believe that I ever will. We are going to keep everything on the table. 1938 Selmer Paris 22 Trumpet Artist Quality MB LP Light Weight Bell Rare. Here is a nice old Selmer Paris trumpet marked on the mouthpiece receiver BB MB LP 22. Horn also has the hard to find Qualite Artistique stamp on the bell, which designates it as being made with a lighter weight bell and the larger sized medium bore which I read was. 458, I haven’t measured it. I got this horn from the descendants of the original owner, their daughter, who is now 50 years old played it in school, it was originally the lady’s father who owned it. Anyway the horn looks good for its age. It needs the bell to be straightened up a little, it is a lighter weight brass and has been flattened a little along edges, it also doesn’t have the heavy reinforcement around the bell edge you typically see on a Selmer. Horn plays really well, has good dark tone and a real jazzy intonation. Qualite Artistique stamped horns have a reputation for being committee like in their tone and intonation. Bell measures approx 4 5/8 across. Valves all have good compression and pop etc, I noticed they had some discoloration and wear but horn plays well. I would guess it could use a good cleaning etc, but overall it’s a very nice horn that plays very well. Also comes with original bill of sale from 1939 and Selmer lyre.
