Corks, Pads, and felt has been replaced and the action has been adjusted for optimum playability. Now the horn plays better than new with professional setup is all. I kinda regret having anything done but I had every intention of playing this horn but since then, I have had a change of heart. It’s too beautiful for me to be bouncing around out there playing, so I have decided to cash it on other things that are necessary. All of the pictures were taken before the pads were replaced so you can see that everything was absolutely original down to the smallest detail. My instructor persuaded me to have the pads replaced simply because they were too dry to get the full beauty out of the horn, and because they along with everything about this horn is 72 years old. This horn have hardly any use at all, so it did not need an overhaul. (It was already tight). Only to be refreshed and oiled because of it’s age. I have the fresh receipt for the work order. It is ready for use. Rich man’s horn. Don’t need no big story for this one. The case is just as beautiful as the horn. (Afraid to use it). The old man who turned this horn in, out there in Iowa, had it since he was a lad. He played it in school and then quit. He put it in the closet and there it stayed for 70 years of it’s 72 years upon the face of the earth. My instructor and his wife said that ” it’s like having a 72 year old new horn”. Said that I should hold onto it and cash it in on my retirement. With all said and done, it will take you another 72 years to find another one in this mint condition, at this price. You may have to fly in to see this one. I have never seen one like it in all of my 42 years of collecting, and don’t believe that I ever will. We are going to keep everything on the table.
