Genuine Bach Bb Stradivarius Trumpet Bell #37, Yellow Brass Silver Plated
Bach 37 yellow brass bell. This bell has been taken off a trumpet so there are spots that show where the solder points are. These are very easily cleaned up when the repair person heats up those areas to clean and get ready for the new solder. The silver plating is 100%. There are no dents or dings anywhere in the bell. My health has recently caused me to end my career in music. This consisted of a 25 year university professorship, 34 years of playing as a contracted member of professional orchestras and freelancing in the jazz, commercial and classical space. I preface with this to illustrate that I was one of the biggest trumpet nerds I knew and I LOVED gear. My pictures aren’t great and I apologize for that. All my horns are completely dent/ding-free in like new condition. But please let me know if you have questions or need clarification on an item.

Precision Valve Alignment (PVA) kit for a Bach Stradivarius Trumpet or Cornet
“Breathing New Life into Classic Instruments”. Precision Valve Alignment kit for. Bach Stradivarius ® Trumpets, Cornets, and Flugelhorns. Great Gift for you or your beloved Trumpeter! I use a PVA on all my own personal Bachs and love the way it turns them into better horns. I’ve used several very well known valve alignment shops and gotten mixed results, so I decided why not do it myself? Nobody cares more about how your horn plays than YOU. With my PVA kit, you can now do a superb alignment job yourself fairly easily by carefully following the instructions and using the precision parts I supply. And you can also adjust it over time if you want to weak it one way or another. Every kit comes with. A special valve inspection mirror made in Germany. Precision cut upstroke bushings that are dimensionally stable and new rubber flat washers. Multiple fine shims for tweaking and optimizing the alignment. Highly detailed instructions to bring your valve alignment to the last. (Note: kit does not include the Bach Strad pictured). Through my extensive experience with hundreds of Bach Strads for over 3 decades, I’ve found that a Precision Valve Alignment helps every Strad play better. A good Strad is enhanced, and a very good Strad play great. A PVA makes your trumpet playing easier and more fun. The nice part is you get to custom tweak it to your precise liking, not just standard shop metrics. While the metal parts of the your Bach valves are engineered and manufactured precisely, the same cannot be said about felt bushings and and rubber bumpers that can compress or distort over time. These parts are often made too thick or thin and as a result create substantial valve misalignment. While the difference between a ML and L bore Bach is only. 462 I frequently see differences in valve tolerances from. 010.025 8x as much! Which causes significant resistance and internal turbulence. Fortunately, a PVA can correct this problem and help your horn play better on every note. With a PVA kit from BachStrads you will hear and feel immediate improvements in the playing characteristics of your horn. It is not hard to do a very good job, and you can always return to your settings in the future to confirm/refine your alignment if you want a change. Extends your Endurance: Your horn will play more freely and easily. Greater efficiency and less effort in playing allows you to play longer with less fatigue. Better note accuracy: With a more uniform level of resistance throughout your horn, your accuracy will improve. The more consistent feel of your horn will help you better gauge the placement of each note and take out some of the guess work. Easier slotting in the high range: High notes starting above the staff are clearer and slot better. Instead of a slippery slide, the notes become better seated and more reliable to produce. When notes slot better, you feel more confident in your playing. Truer Intonation: You’ll find that the intonation is more even on your horn. When a note is partially obstructed, the extra work you have to do to squeeze/force it can make the pitch climb and also add distortion. When the valves are properly aligned, the notes play better in tune without extra force from the player. Tone quality is refined: The improved airflow of your horn makes the tone quality better. I’ve found on most horns, that the sound becomes clearer, darker, and more pure, and acquires greater depth and dimension to the tone. Some players have remarked that after a PVA their Bach sounds like what they had always imagined it was always supposed to be like. That is my experience as well. Playing is more comfortable: Our lips are quite sensitive to resistance and interference. A misaligned horn will have various levels of resistance as you change fingerings. This can make a horn feel stuffy or uneven or both. A PVA makes your horn feel smoother and easier to play with reduced backward shock waves and less turbulence in the resonating air column. The result is a more comfortable experience for the player and less adjustment necessary to play. A player should not have to fight his horn. The horn should be a resonant, responsive, and beautiful vocal extension of his artistry and expression. A PVA helps your Strad play the way it was designed to sound. Welcome to Ashantee Music! Matching Exceptional Students With Quality Instruments. One of several professional trumpets we are offering for sale. This is a Bach Stradivarius 180S37 silver trumpet in Bb with the additional 1. Valve trigger not found on most 37’s. S/n 116XXX makes this around 1977, though there is a small gap in the serial number lists at that point. It looks far newer and to have been played very carefully and very little. Silver plating about 99.5% with little if any wear at all, and just a couple very small dings left over from careful and minor dent removal. No signs of repair or major dent removal. Valves are fast and smooth and quiet with very good compression. All tuning slides are free including the third-valve dump slide which is so often stuck on vintage horns. Just through the shop where it was chem cleaned, detergent cleaned, lubed, polished, and had all new tuning slide O-rings, water key cork, piston felts and stop rod bumper installed. Copper bottom straight mute, Harmon wow-wow mute, polishing cloth, Bach 5C and 7C mouthpieces, new ProTec microfiber cloth, and new ProTec leather finger protector. All in the vintage hard case with minor wear and what looks like tiny paint splatters, but structurally in good condition. A great-playing horn from a great period with a hard-to-find trigger, and super hard to find in this condition! Bach Stradivarius Bb Trumpet With 43 Bell New York Era
Among brass instruments the’Stradivarius Model’ Bach Trumpet occupies the same supreme position as the genuine Stradivarius Violin among string instruments. Both are masterpieces, the perfection of which is beyond dispute. The Bach Trumpet is a Patrician among instruments; absolutely precise in each mechanical detail, made in exact accordance with established acoustical principles and combining every improved feature that human skill and ingenuity have conceived as applicable to trumpet building. In 1915, young Vincent Freiherr von Schrottenbach, fleeing worsening conditions in Austria and Europe, changed his name and moved to the US – and pretty much won an audition with the Boston Symphony almost immediately after his arrival! “Vincent Bach” is now a household name in the music business, but in those early days he was a talented orchestral player, and experimented with making mouthpieces. Vincent Bach later began building trumpets in New York starting around 1925. It was his intention to build an instrument of prestige, and in his 1925 catalog, Bach boldly stated that “among brass instruments the’Stradivarius Model’ Bach Trumpet occupies the same supreme position as the genuine Stradivarius Violin among string instruments”. Indeed, Bach’s Stradivarius trumpets achieved great popularity and are still the most popular model today. 0.459 ML Bore. One piece hand hammered brass bell with French bead, from the no. Brass valve guides – stamped 1-2-3. Brass top and bottom caps. BACH NEW YORK USA stamp on valve casing. For the player or collector. The serial number and shop card dates this trumpet to January 1951 – the 15th of January, to be exact. Putting that into some perspective, it was only days before that the iconic United Nations building opened in nearby Manhattan. The bell is marked as the Stradivarius Model, and stamped “43” to indicate the bell profile. NOTE: This is not the original bell. The bell hallmark reads “Mt Vernon” whereas the 2nd valve casing is stamped NEW YORK. This came to us with badly deteriorated lacquer, and in need of repair to restore it to playing condition. The horn already had evidence of previous repairs, large and small. There is some pitting on the third piston and a mar on the mouthpipe, a cracked bell wire, chipped receiver, and various other trauma – most of which appears to have been competently repaired. The trumpet has now been stripped of all remaining lacquer, and hand-rubbed to give it a more uniform look while retaining much of its original character. And of course to preserve the clarity of the stamps and bell engraving. The response was better than expected. That 43 bell is one of my favorites, and I liked its brilliance as I did the final play test. I did detect an anomaly in the sound, which I cannot quite attribute to tinnitus. In the course of bringing this instrument to playable condition I examined all braces and checked each joint for leaks, but the bell wire had cracked at one time and evidently a small solder repair keeps it from rattling. There is a small amount of damage near the small end of the mouthpipe, almost at the receiver. That is considered a sensitive area of the horn. One would expect that sort of damage to possibly cause the horn to play “squirrelly” – that is, difficult to center the pitch, especially in the upper register. I did not experience this personally, but I have always played larger bores. Nevertheless, for me the horn slots and sings clearly at the high E-F-F# and G, so your mileage may vary. The “blow” will feel familiar, but these pistons are old and worn, and you may notice. I used a synthetic oil of higher viscosity when finaling the horn. I can still tell the pistons fit loose but they move smoothly, quietly and reliably. Despite the aforementioned pitting on the 3rd valve, the pistons are all quiet and smooth. This trumpet has been brought back into alignment, that is, the valves port correctly. The trumpet will come with the vintage looking green top cap felts – not the classic black or vintage white rubber – sorry. The 2nd slide crook was heavily damaged and required replacing. The 3rd slide end pull appeared to have been dropped previously, and had been inexpertly repaired, so it required a patch. The finger button on the 3rd valve broke off but has been replaced. As well, the valve stem was highly corroded and had to be replaced. All original parts are included with the horn, of course. There is only minimal evidence of red rot. Slides move freely and appropriately. NOTE: this trumpet does not have 1st / 3rd slide rings or push rods. It is very comfortable in the hand, however, and the intonation is good. A colleague at Conn-Selmer expedited my request for the shop card. Not much information to glean, beyond the usual information that Vincent Bach deemed necessary to record. Details such as the bell-bore-mouthpipe combination, date of sale, and other info such as the original finish (baked epoxy lacquer). Apparently the original sale included a quick-change-to-A tuning slide, which I’m sure is since lost forever. The floral bell work is elegant, and it has been speculated that this trumpet was engraved by the master Jerome Brownstein, who did a lot of engraving work for Bach in the 1950s. A name is engraved on the flare: “Freddy Guzman”. Who is Freddy Guzman? Freddy was a New York trumpet player, a cat with good chops and a lot of friends. The story goes that Freddy also had a habit. This fine brasswind has undergone a professional cleaning and inspection prior to listing.
