Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. Here is a 1931 Conn 2B “New World Symphony” trumpet (serial number 281163). This was the top-of-the-line trumpet built by Conn at the time. It was built as an updated version of the 22B “New York Symphony”, having a larger bore and a wider, more open feeling wrap. Here is what Conn said in their catalog at the time. “New World Symphony 2-B Trumpet Destined to Become Most Popular Trumpet in the World”. Flexibility of scale never before attained in any other trumpet, a superb “trumpet tone” without one blatant crack or trace of “squeel” from low F to the top of the scale, rich and solid in fortissimo and zephyr-like in pianissimo, faultless intonation throughout the complete range! “Most perfect trumpet the world has ever seen” is the way some of the most celebrated symphony and concert artists have characterized our new 2-B trumpet. This horn is in good playing condition. The bore of the horn is. 458 (Conn #1 1/2 bore). The bell is 4 5/8. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a some small dings as well as light pitting over much of the horn. The nuts on the stop rods have been replaced, and there is a reinforcing patch on the underside of the bell where the players finger rests. This horn has a Stenberg engraving of flowers and a water mill, but unfortunately the instrument was restored back in the 1970s, and the engraving was polished too much so it is not very crisp. The bell flare is slightly wavy. The serial number on the valve casings is worn and difficult to read, but the valves are also stamped with the serial number. The leadpipe has 2 B stamped beneath the mouthpiece receiver. The bell engraving reads: Made By / C. All this is visible in the pictures. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This trumpet comes with a mouthpiece in good condition and a new lightweight case. The bore of the horn is medium at. 458 (Conn #1 1/2 bore). The bell is 4 5/8. Here is what Conn said at the time. The 2-B New World Symphony Model has been reinstated in the line by popular request. Ever since it was discontinued several years ago, there has been a constant clamor for it. Now the 2-B is back, but it has been modernized mechanically. It now has the famous Clickless Crysteel valves and an improved trigger on the first valve. It still has its wonderful one-piece bell, which is largely responsible for its great power and brilliance. It is still made in medium-large bore, which is the bore so many symphony men and dance men in the larger orchestras prefer. Great trumpeters everywhere will welcome back this great instrument, and those who did not know it in the old days will find a great thrill when they play it. Built in Bb and A. The 2B was discontinued in 1932, and was replaced by the Conn 8B Symphony Grand “Gustat”. In 1940 the 8B was then replaced by the 2B once again, but the new 2B was identical to the old 8B in almost every way. The most interesting design feature of these horns is the expanding air column through the valve cluster which Conn achieved by making the bore of valves two and three. 458, while the bore of valve 1 is in. In 1949 Conn combined the two models together to make the 28B Connstellation, and soon after the 2B “New World Symphony” was gone for good. This horn looks beautiful and plays very well. The valves have very good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few small dings and some light scratching throughout the horn. The bell engraving is in excellent shape, and t. He text of the engraving reads “C G Conn Ltd/ USA/ Elkhart-IND”. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. His horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now–if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. Excellent condition gold plated 26B. Like the 2B, this Conn model has the. 458 bore size as opposed to the 22B’s. Good compression and good valve piston plating. Very smooth valve action and slides. A pleasure to play. No dents or dings. Gets fortissimo so easily. It’s very recently been serviced and plays better than ever. These two play better than any of the 2Bs or 26Bs I have played. Felts in finger buttons have been changed since photos. Valve stems have cool adjustable spring pressure screw at the top of the enclosed spring. Such a modern horn. Black Beauty Imposter: 6.5 x 14 World Max black nickel over brass shell and brand new Ludwig Imperial lugs with gaskets. P-85 strainer and butt, blue and olive badge, and generic 2.3 mm triple flanged hoops and snare wires. Shell is lightly used with a few scratches. Two small extra holes by the strainer are covered with black Allen head cap screws (see pic). Evans snare side 300 and very lightly played Remo Ambassador batter. Great sounding snare with wide tuning range, but it’s time to thin the collection.
