Holton instruments came out of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and the Collegiate was the company’s student cornet, the kind many school band players started on in the 1950s. This one is a three-valve Collegiate cornet with serial number 267421, which falls in Holton’s 1954 production range. It would look great on a shelf or in a music room, or a student or collector could bring it back to life. It comes with its tweed-covered hard case with the blue handle and the matching Collegiate by Holton plaque, a Stone Lined straight mute with a partly worn Humes Mfg. East Chicago label, a nickel lyre, and a few old papers tucked in the case. Weight is about 6 lb packed in the case. Condition: Heavy lacquer wear with bare copper-colored patches on the horn. No mouthpiece is included. The case has frayed corners and fabric, flaking blue edge trim, and a worn plush liner with a few small holes, see photos. The photos are part of the description, so please look them over. Please note: playing condition not guaranteed.
