Mendez Ultra Sonic Trumpet. This is a fantastic playing trumpet. The lacquer is in bad condition with lots of spots where it has been scratched or chipped off from many years of use. The dark spots on the bell are where the brass has been exposed from under the lacquer for a very long time. This is a quote from R. Dale Olson who was the brains behind a lot of the Olds designs. The Ultra-Sonic Bell was a one-piece, seamless, bell, manufactured through an “explosion molding” process. In this, a tapered tube was inserted into a mold, with an explosive charge detonated within the tube. Upon explosion, the metal was forced to the approximate shape of the mold. A secondary process involved “spinning” the bell against a mandrel to achieve the final configuration.
