This trumpet was handmade by Kalikio (2nd generation Kalikio). This is the Irma period, which is famous for “must try” and “hit or miss” from people who are looking for a calikio. The worst problem was a defective solder in the piston inner tube, which made certain notes very faint. Fortunately, the overall tone was excellent and the piston was in good condition, so I lent the instrument to a professional studio player I knew and had him fix the parts that were not right at the workshop, so I was able to eliminate the minor problems, including preventive measures. It had originally undergone standard modifications such as the removal of the main pipe post and the change to an amado key, and there were traces of a reed pipe that had been stuffed several millimeters to improve the pitch in the upper register, but for some reason it had a heavy cap that had not been seen in Dominick’s time. (State of the picture). By replacing this with professional input and replacing the top and bottom caps and finger buttons with non-genuine lightweight parts, we feel that the instrument is now as good as Dominique’s standard work. The first generation Dominick’s instruments tended to have a lustrous, yet dry, bright and penetrating sound, but after replacing them with lightweight parts, I feel that this piece has a slightly less dry, glossy, and soft sound, and the rest of the tone is similar to the first generation. The sound of this instrument is similar to that of the first generation, but with a little less dryness and a little more gloss and softness. The sound in the photo is like a calicio and a strado added and divided by 2. It is a 2 bell, 7 lead pipe. As you can see in the photo, the condition is not very beautiful, with rough plating and various repair marks, but there are no dents to be concerned about, no sticking, and the piston and slide are in good condition. The airtightness remains at a sufficient level for this era. It is not a perfect fit, but it comes with these lightweight parts and a genuine prop. International Buyers – Please Note. Thank you for your understanding.
