It has a nickel over brass shell. It also has nice gut and wire combo snares. These drums sound fantastic! Nothing compares to the original 1920s Ludwig brass shell, (same as Black Beauty)! The bearing edges are rolled and welded to the shell. Many companies have tried to reproduce this shell Joyful Noise, AK (Adrian Kirchler), Ludwig Triumphal etc, but nothing compares to the original! To quote an article from Not So Modern Drummer. As many vintage collectors will agree, the early 1920s 1930s Ludwig heavy brass snare drums had a certain mojo; a magical feel and sound that you just dont hear in modern drums today. As far as I can tell, everything except the heads, appears to be original. I have never cleaned this drum, but it would shine up well if you choose to do so. The drum is in very nice condition. It has a small bb sized dent on one panel, under the Ludwig engraving (see pictures) but otherwise, no structural imperfections, cracks, gouges, etc. I have priced this drum for a quick sale. It has been a while, but now it is time to let some more gear go. I would consider trades or partial trades on high end Sonor snares, and possibly kits.
