I’ve owned and performed on this trumpet since 2010. Originally it was one of those blue Committees. This horn was a custom made one with the added engraving all up the bell and its even got a name,’Damon’ on the side. These modern Martin Committees are larger than the older ones and not made anymore. Production stopped in the late 2000s. I stripped most of the paint off mainly to try and darken the tone of the instrument and IT WORKS! There is something about the paint these modern Martins had that gave them a brighter sound… The horn plays really unique and well. It’s actually a great all rounder. I love using this instrument not only for improvisational music but also for more classical stuff. I used it for Aida last year and it was wonderful due to the centred and complex sound it can make. Of course its a great jazz/ commercial /latin horn as well. The valves are very fast and smooth and the trumpet has excellent response. The horn comes used but in great working order. Firstly the paint is still on about 1 % of the instrument so if this bothers you you could either get it done by a repairman in an afternoon or do it yourself again in an afternoon its as easy as some boiling water on the spot… The bell pipe at the main crook is bent approx 0.8 cm towards the mouthpiece receiver. Again this is only ascetic and does not impact one bit on the playability of the instrument/ no pressure was put on the valve casings so I haven’t ever bothered to get it taken back but I have it on good authority that the process is not very difficult. There are some dark red tarnish marks only on the reverse tuning slide only. I saw a repairman yesterday who has assured me that this isn’t serious and is just a part of the process of ageing of the brass so nothing to be concerned about. So if you want a great playing and unique Martin for a fraction of the price of one of the old ones get it! I will also throw in a solid case and a mouthpiece (I have a collection so you can have a pick of few).
