The Dotzauer company went on to become one of the leading producers of brasswinds in the region, competing with VF Cerveny and others. The Dotzauer brand flourished, and its instruments became popular throughout Austria, the Balkans and the Benelux countries. But after WWII the Dotzauer family was expelled from their homeland of Bohemia, and the company went dark for almost a decade. In the 1950s the company reemerged, now based in central Germany near Frankfurt. Josef Dotzauer, following in his grandfather’s footsteps, continued to apply the latest automated techniques to brass manufacturing for more consistent results. The company continued to grow, adding a retail music store, establishing a repair and brass training program and a music school. Today, the company is known as Meister Dotzauer, and is well respected as a producer of hunting horns and Parforce horns, in addition to fine brasswinds.
