Conn C onquerer Model 40B. Made in Elkhart, Indiana c. Offered is a beautiful Conn Vocabell trumpet serial number 296952 dating from c. Made in Elkhart, Indiana during the heyday of band instrument manufacture in the USA. The model stamped on the receiver is 40B. (Could not get a photo, it’s too light for the camera). This incredible trumpet is in excellent condition. Appears that it wasn’t played very much. The valves have little wear and the plating is more than 95% intact. The lacquer is a little pitted because of age. There are some small dings on the underside of the bell section. We did not take them out because the whole bell section would have to be unsoldered and that would ruin the consistent finish. The trumpet plays perfectly the way it is now. The dings could always be removed at a later time. We chemically cleaned the instrument, oiled it and greased all the slides. These unique trumpets were made without a bead on the edge of the bell allowing the whole instrument to ring more freely. This indeed is the case with this fabulous instrument. These are relatively rare and well sought after. They are also made with octagonal valve casings and fancy top and bottom caps. Even the trim, water keys and rings are extra fancy! Made with a #1 1/2 bore which measures. 0459 or medium bore. Here’s your chance to get a special deal on a special instrument! Comes with the original case and we will include a new mouthpiece and valve oil as well. This is the 1933 description in the Conn catalog. The most popular trumpet on the market. Used by such first chair stars as Lebert Lombardo (Guy Lombardo), Jack Cavan (Charlie Agnew), Lamar Wright (Cab Calloway), Charlie Williams (Duke Ellington), David Glickstein (Broadway shows) and Eddie Camden (Don Bestor). The Vocabell rim is a single, integral piece of metal which allows it to vibrate freely. Conventional bells have a rigid wire in the rim which tends to muffle the tone and dampen out the delicate harmonics that are so essential to clear tone and rich coloring. Delicate instruments of Columbia Broadcasting Studio in New York show the Vocabell has from 12 to 15 decibels greater volume, is smoother and more even in scale, and is clearer and purer in tone than trumpets with the conventional type bells. Beautifully styled in modern manner. Cost calculated by location and service.
