Original case Holton MF3 mouthpiece Holton oil (unpacked) The Firebird is a type of trumpet with the standard three valves and the addition of a trombone-style slide. It was invented by Maynard Ferguson and Larry Ramirez and remains an exceptionally rare, specialist instrument. They were occasionally produced by Holton. From Holton catalog: M. Combination of valve/ slide. Used by Maynard Ferguson in concert and recording. Features same chasis as Model ST-302 but includes four position slide that lowers pitch by four half steps, and can be played either left or right handed. With the slide in closed position, it can be played as any other 3 valve trumpet. Standard finish brass, nickel silver trim. 5.0 bell diameter, hand hammered yellow brass with wire enclosed rim, bell tilted 20 degrees.
