For those of you who may not be familiar, Frank is a true heavy hitter in the jazz world and has been featured on multiple Grammy winning albums. He is also the quintessential gear hound, having amassed a collection of over 500 mouthpieces! He now endorses and plays Jody Jazz mouthpieces exclusively so he is purging some of his massive collection of mouthpieces he has acquired over many years, as well as other random gear. Be sure to check out my other items for more great items from this collection. There will be more to come later, so add me to your favorites list and check back later to see new additions. His listing is for a vintage Conn 12M’Naked Lady baritone saxophone. The serial number 566, xxx indicates a c. It does currently play top to bottom, but it would require some work to be in tip top playing condition. The pads are in pretty good condition overall. There are definitely some that are on their last legs, but many others look almost brand new. I haven’t checked it for leaks. I’m sure there are some, but overall it feels like things are sealing up pretty good. There are definitely issues with the body and neck though, most of which are primarily cosmetic, but some of which should be fixed if you want to play it. The body looks to have a forward’banana’ bend, which is quite common. Since it is not causing keys to bind, that is something that doesn’t necessarily need to be fixed. The neck has some pull down, and small pings. The neck receiver has some stress cracks, which may be causing leaks. I would advise replacing it. The body has LOTS of little dings and pings. It kind of looks like it got hit with a shot gun blast! This is pretty much purely cosmetic. Same goes for a flattened spot on the bottom of the bow, and the lip of the bell, which is bent down slightly. There are also some pushed in key guard feet, and re-soldered joints. Lastly, it is missing all of its rollers and roller screws, so you will want to replace those. They were pilfered for another project because they were original Conn mother of pearl rollers. You could replace them with standard plastic ones to save on costs though. This horn comes in its original case. The case is in rather poor condition. A lot of the exterior covering has come off. It has a makeshift replacement handle. There is no mouthpiece, nor any other accessories included with this sax. This would be a good horn for someone who wants a vintage Conn, but doesn’t have the budget right now for a primo example. Please feel free to message me with any questions! Thanks again for looking!
