Up for sale today is a rather rare, and sought after 1st year model production, 1954 Selmer mark VI tenor saxophone. These very 1st mark vis had a rare insignia on the neck which is an Sc Selmer Co. Rather than just the S that they used shortly after for the duration of their history. The serial number is 56, xxx and this horn comes with a recent premium pro overhaul with metal domed resonators (like the original). This horn really smokes! It plays with lightening fast response and reallly has a fantastic lyrical quality to it. Think Super balanced action character and lyrical ness with Mark vi projection! Not overly spread or over dark with a gorgeous richness to the sound. This horn is really in remarkable shape for its age showing no past serious damages and no past resolders. The neck is also original and in premium shape with no past pull downs and matching serial number. At some point early on the horn was refinished but the laq remains honey dark and you can see the entire engraving throughout the horn. It was likely a factory job and a quite usual practice for those players on the bandstand of early years.
