Selmer Super Balanced Action (SBA) Alto Saxophone 1953 Original Lacquer

RELISTED = NO RESERVE = NO TIME WASTERS PLEASE. Selmer Paris Super Balanced Action (SBA) Alto Saxophone 1953 – Fully overhauled and serviced December 2019. Here’s my SBA Selmer Alto which I’ve had for 30 years. I bought it off an old pro Big Band/Jazz player who had it from new. It still has plenty of it’s original lacquer however as with nearly all examples it’s well tarnished but adds to the authenticity of this remarkable instrument. It plays superb and sounds great. It’s down to preference but many people (including me) prefer the sound and feel of the SBA over the mark vi. The action is crisp and quiet. It was called the Super Balanced Action for a reason! It comes with it’s original case. I’ve kept a the modern case as it’s better protected. This is available separately. Also included is 2 Selmer mouth pieces (C and E, they are a bit faded and old but work fine) and pipe cleaner and original cap. The Selmer Super Balanced Action is considered by many to be the design that set the tone for the modern saxophone. One of the later versions of the SBA which stopped being produced in 1954, but if you’re looking at this you probably already know. 1973 Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone. This Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone shows many scratches, smaller and larger dents and some lacquer loss but at the same time is rather clean and after some small adjustments (and maybe a pad or two replacement) should be a terrific player saxophone. One of the key guard posts became un soldered (I tried to show it in one of the photos) and will need soldering. I’ve tried my best to show both the beauty and the rough spots of this very nice sax but if needed I can supply more. This is a very rare and desirable example of a Selmer Balanced Action tenor saxophone #28XXX manufactured in Paris, France in 1939. It is nearly impossible to find such a clean, straight example of this vintage of Selmer saxophones. Pads are older plastic resonator type, flexible with some life left and t. His sax is set up to good playing adjustment. Minimal wear and scratching for a sax of this vintage on it’s factory relaquer finish. This sax has a beautiful focused vintage sound. AWESOME SELMER PARIS BALANCED ACTION ALTO SAXOPHONE. Beautifully-engraved Lacquer Finish has aged to an interesting patina — as there is substantial wear it is difficult to ascertain the lacquer’s originality/ it may have been relacquered at some point. The horn plays on older pads — as it is an older pro horn you will probably want to have your tech go through it for optimal playability. There is a minor neck receiver resolder (see photo #9). Serial number 21xxx – with matching serial number also stamped on neck – indicates a 1936 manufacture date according to online charts. With nice Selmer (bundy) wood plush-lined case. This is a highly desirable vintage example of a Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone #M107XXX manufactured in Paris, France in 1963. This is considered the very best vintage of Selmer saxophones right after the coveted late 5-digit years. The neck is a very similar vintage, with serial #121XXX. Pads are very good star metal resonator type with plenty of life left and t. His sax is set up to good playing adjustment. Normal wear and scratching for an original sax of this vintage. Photos #5 and #7 show the really nice pro brass key extensions that make playing this sax extra fast and easy. Photos #11 and #12 show a professional patch on neck and the missing Selmer logo, no effect on the great sound of this sax. This sax plays very freely with a fat, solid focused sound and great edge. Up for sale is a beautiful Mark VI (142, xxx [1967]), these saxophones are the benchmark to which all other saxophones are compared to in professional saxophone market amongst artists worldwide. The instruments were used in historic recordings by the likes of Coltrane, Getz, Brecker and countless others due to their flexibility and tonal capabilities. I highly recommend and stand behind the quality of Selmer saxophones and their unparalleled craftsmanship if they can afford these beautiful instruments. Freshly seated and leveled pads. Springs Adjusted for quick and responsive action. Recent oiling of all hinge tubes and rods. Felts and corks leveled and replaced where needed. Pads POP from the tight seal. Ready to play out of the box. Here is a demo of me playing it to quickly show its condition. This saxophone is of incredible physical and mechanical shape- key fit is tight throughout most of the horn. The original Selmer Tray Pack leather case is in great structural condition w/ only one latch damaged; It has been cleaned, it has a storage compartment under the clarinet case and also a holder for a flute case. This instrument is ready to be played out of the box. Hopefully this horn goes to somebody that can play and enjoy it for many, many years to come.
