Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. Here is a 1925 (serial number 229902) Conn 22B “New York Symphony” trumpet. This horn was one of the finest trumpets being made anywhere in the world during the 1920s. Visually, this horn is in very good condition. Unfortunately, the horn has been played professionally for many, many years and the valves need to be rebuilt. This is a real shame, because the horn looks so good. This horn deserves to have its valves rebuilt so it can be played again. The bore of the horn is. 438 (Conn #1 bore). The bell is 4 1/2. The engraving is crisp and clear, and reads MADE BY/ C. The valves move well and the slides all move of course. The original leadpipe and main tuning slide have both been worn out, and both have been replaced. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few small dings and pings as well as a few areas of light scratching in the silver plate. There are also a few areas where the silver plate has worn through to the brass underneath, but this is not bad at all and the silver finish is still in great condition. The parts on the horn that have been replaced are finished in polished yellow brass. This trumpet does not come with a case or a mouthpiece. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop. The item “1925 C G Conn 22B New York Symphony Trumpet-Unfortunately, Very Heavily Played” is in sale since Monday, February 3, 2020. Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. Here is a 1923 (serial number 204161) Conn 22B “New York Symphony” trumpet. This horn has valve casings made from solid copper, which was only done for a few years during the 1920. The bore of the horn is medium at. 438 (Conn #1 bore). The bell is 4 1/2. Here is what Conn said in their catalogs at the time. When this trumpet was first designed and manufactured it took the trumpet world off its feet. Just let one of these trumpets get into the trumpet section of an orchestra or band and the whole section would adopt it. When soloists played it people marveled at its pure trumpet tone. Through a constant process of refinement, this trumpet today is the most popular in the world. Its only rival is the New World Symphony trumpet. The success of this superb instrument is due to the fact that it filled an urgent need. Previously the foreign trumpet had been chosen by big artists because of its peculiarly fine trumpet tone. However, these foreign trumpets were so faulty in intonation that users wore themselves out trying to “humor” them and “lip” them into tune. Moreover, they were extremely hard to blow. When the New York Symphony trumpet was put on the market, possessing not only a matchless trumpet tone but also perfect intonation and extreme ease of blowing, it is no wonder it became widely heralded practically over night. Only the famous Conn hydraulic expansion process [described and explained on pages 8 and 9], made this fine trumpet possible. Trumpets look pretty much alike on the outside – it’s the inside surface which determines the worth of an instrument. Tone waves are very delicate and become distorted and choked whenever the inside surface of the trumpet is wrinkled or wavy, as was true in the foreign trumpets and is true today in inferior makes. The hydraulic expansion process insures a glassy-smooth inside surface, the perfect surface for carrying tone waves. Only Conn trumpets are made by this process and only Conn’s possess the perfect inside surface for carrying the tone waves. Made in a small bore, the New York Symphony trumpet has a very bright, crystal pure tone. It is brilliant without being “squealy” or “squeaky”; it has great penetrating power without being blatant; it will play pianissimo without faltering or losing its trumpet color; it will play fortissimo without cracking or becoming harsh; it responds with the slightest breath and can be played vigorously all evening without exhaustion. The unparalleled favorite in theater orchestras, dance orchestras, the smaller symphonies and concert bands, and for solo playing. This horn looks beautiful and plays very well. The valves have good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, t. Here are a few small dings and pings as well as some areas of light pitting and light scratching. There are a few small reinforcing patches on the knuckles of the horn – on the second valve knuckles, and the knuckle where the main tuning slide enters the third valve. There is also one small solder repair on the leadpipe. The bell engraving reads: MADE BY/ C. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. His horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now–if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This trumpet comes with a somewhat worn case and a mouthpiece in good condition. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop. Conn 88H Artist Symphony Trigger Trombone. This will make a nice playing trombone for a comeback player or advancing student who isn’t concerned with looks and cosmetic blemishes. The trombone is not pretty. There is very little lacquer left. There are dents, the worse is in the crook of the tuning slides (see last photo). There are solder marks and scaring from past dent removal. There is a small crack in the inner slide which can be viewed in photo 11. The slide has a nice feel and is smooth without catches. The trigger is also smooth and highly functional. The red brass bell produces a full open lyrically sound. Included is a newer Schilke 51D large shank mouthpiece. The case is original but is in very bad condition. It will hold the trombone but is not a case for long term use. 1927 Conn 26B Symphony Trumpet (Heavyweight 2B New World)
Excellent condition gold plated 26B. Like the 2B, this Conn model has the. 458 bore size as opposed to the 22B’s. Good compression and good valve piston plating. Very smooth valve action and slides. A pleasure to play. No dents or dings. Gets fortissimo so easily. It’s very recently been serviced and plays better than ever. These two play better than any of the 2Bs or 26Bs I have played. Felts in finger buttons have been changed since photos. Valve stems have cool adjustable spring pressure screw at the top of the enclosed spring. Such a modern horn. Per the Conn Loyalist, here is how Conn described the horn in its catalog: “The 26B trumpet possesses the same bore as the popular 2B but is built of a little heavier gauge brass for the players who like to put “steam behind their performance. It also has the advantage of being somewhat lower in price. For symphony and concert playing, here is a beautiful instrument.
