Getzen C Trumpet Older Professional Quality Instrument in EXCELLENT Condition
These early Getzen Eterna professional models are remarkable instruments and it has served me well. This instrument has been well taken care of and has only been utilized when the chamber music or recital solo required a C trumpet. So while the instrument is older, it has been lightly used and its condition is excellent: There is excellent valve compression, no sign of dry ro. On the lead pipe, and the silver plating is still in excellent condition with only 2 spots where there are minor signs of wear (see photos). Or an amateur who plays for fun and is tired of transposing hymns on Sunday morning. You are not going to find a better playing C trumpet anywhere close to this price. Text me if you have any questions. And this was my reply to him: I. Honestly don’t know. Serial number is SK8213…. Which my research indicates that it was manufactured around 1970. But this instrument has such a beautiful, free sound that I have not experienced in other C trumpets… I suppose there’s a possibility that it’s larger… But I honestly don’t know. All I do know is that it’s a special horn… Based on my research since posting… I’m beginning to think I priced it way to low. It’s wasted just sitting in its case…. Needs to be enjoyed. Check out our website: harrelsontrumpets. Adding Efficiency with mass? Have you heard that adding mass will darken the tone? Or that heavy bottom caps reduce flexibility? Q: Will Harrelson Trumpets Trim Kits affect my valve alignment? Q: I ordered a Trim Kit and it does not fit. A: SWE Trim is built to fit most trumpet makes and models. If you’re having trouble, please follow these guidelines. Carefully clean the valve threads on your trumpet. Lightly grease threads with medium slide grease. Screw on trim being careful not to cross-thread (the trim may fit tightly). In some cases it may be necessary to send your trumpet to be custom fit for your SWE Trim Kit. Q: What are the weights of Harrelson Trumpets bottom caps? A: The Lightweight (3/8) caps weigh. The Medium (1/2) caps weigh 1.23 oz. The Heavy (3/4) caps weigh 1.83oz. We have also added several other “custom sizes” that are extremely light and very heavy. We are always adding custom designer series bottom caps and new inlays as well. So check back often and feel free to make requests. If you can dream it… We can build it! Q: Which weight should I order? A: Each size has unique advantages. Light – loose attacks, more feedback to the player. Medium – balanced weight and efficiency, improved flexibility, solid attacks and slurs. Heavy – very efficient, crisp attacks at all dynamics, extreme flexibility, less feedback to player. Q: Are inlays available for my Mod Kit and how much do they cost? A: For a complete list of inlay options and prices, please check our website. Q: The felts or rubber bumpers on my top valve caps are loose. A: We deliver all Mod Kits with loose felts so you can choose to use the original or new felts. These can be glued with just a drop of rubber cement. Q: Will Harrelson Trumpets trim fit my trumpet? Also offered is an excellent condition large multi-horn Getzen case. The Emperor cornet bell was manufactured in the early 1960’s. The bore size measured on the 2nd valve slide measures. The Buescher bell diameter measures 4.75. The Emperor bell measures 4.81. The horn features a new 1st valve Getzen trigger that works flawlessly. The 3rd valve trigger is also new and is a Bach Strad/Olds Recording type trigger mechanism. All old lacquer was removed from the Buescher horn and the Emperor bell. What few small dings the horn and cornet bell had were gently removed. The instrument has been chem cleaned and thoroughly cleaned inside and out. The horn was then re-lacquered utilizing a baked on epoxy lacquer. The satin to glossy finish is not perfect but close. Some slight signs of last step buffing swirls somewhat noticeable here and there please see pictures. The horn was ultrasonically cleaned as well. All new valve stem corks and felts. The 1st and 3rd valve slide triggers move freely without drag. Excellent valve speed and compression. The oversized Getzen multi-horn case is in excellent condition. The case is able to hoId the double bell horn and another full sized trumpet with room to the posterior for accessories such as mutes etc. There is also an additional storage area under where the double bell horn rests. Oils, pencils, cleaning products can be stored there out of the way. The case has been sanitized with a hospital grade disinfectant, no musty odors to be concerned about. The case latches work fine and secure instruments nicely. If one wanted to carry a flugelhorn instead of the double bell horn the case allows accommodation of any brand of flugelhorn. It truly is an all purpose case. There is one key available for this case. It will be clean, shiny, sanitized, valves oiled, slides lubricated and ready to play right out of the box. I have been working on the concept of this particular double bell instrument for quite some time. I have tried multiple configurations before finalizing this completed instrument. I wanted a double bell multi-purpose horn that could be rendered useful with many genres of music. Time is the real issue with building a horn like the one offered here. I wanted all the bells and whistles so the instrument could hold its own in regards to flexibility in many genres of music. In configuring this horn I was able to demonstrate to myself and to the public attending some of the gigs in which I used this horn that it is truly and amazing instrument worthy of praise. I found it useful in dixieland style music as well as jazz work. When soloing the horn really can yield many different sounds. Typically I would use a combination of mutes or a mute in one bell and open on the other. The two different bells are accessed via the rotor valve easily manipulated with the left hand thumb. The rotor moves freely with little effort and stays in the selected up or down position until moved again with the thumb. I chose the rotor mechanism as opposed to a 4th piston(tried on another prototype double bell horn I still have in test mode) because the left hand must hold down the finger button when accessing the top bell on the other prototype instrument thus not being able to access the 3rd or 1st intonation triggers while playing. My reasoning for triggers vs traditional 1st valve slide thumb saddle and 3rd finger ring adjusters is due to situations where I would want to use a plunger mute for example. The 3rd slide may work its way out and inadvertently flatting some notes while manipulating the plunger mute. The 3rd slide trigger ensures the slide stays put unless the trigger is pulled. As far as the 1st trigger I tried a thumb saddle however the rotor was somewhat in the way when manipulating the thumb saddle, thus the Getzen trigger. In configuring this instrument the cornet bell was selected due to the need to assure the bell to tail measurement on both bells was exactly equal in relation to where the 2 bell tails exit the rotor valve. If the distance was different the intonation would have been compromised from bell to bell. With this configuration both bells yield the same pitch regardless of notes selected on the scale. In comparison when either bell is selected via the rotor and without mute(mutes) there is definite differences in sound characteristics from bell to bell. When the cornet bell is selected in the open format the overall sound is that of a traditional cornet as opposed to the bigger fatter sound of the Buescher bell. I hope in my description of the instrument and playing versatility that some of your questions have been answered. Feel free to ask questions. There have been several attempts over the years in configuring a double bell trumpet. There have been variations using rotor valves and/or a 4th piston with the 2 bells in different directions and planes. I have tried many configurations as prototypes. If you read my description you will see why I chose the setup shown in the pictures. If you “google”double bell trumpet then “youtube” videos of same you will be able to see and hear the typical variations in configurations/sounds of a double bell trumpet demonstrated by several artists. In my opinion the configuration I have chosen with all its amenities yields the best flexibility and offers better intonation qualities than any double bell horn produced to date. It also fits in a somewhat standard multi horn case. The item “Double Trumpet Bell Buescher 244 Getzen 1st & Mendez 3rd Triggers Plus XL Case” is in sale since Monday, July 17, 2017.
