This is a very cool rare find. My customer’s father was a senator here in Louisiana, and according to her was gifted this Conn 80a from Al Hirt. The Cornet has extensive and ornate engraving on the bell all the way up to the bell crook with the Capital building featured in the middle of the bell. The cornet is finished in gold plate and is in excellent original condition. The opera glass slide and the first and 3rd valve tuning mechanism both work very well. Valve look incredible considering the age of the horn. While I have no reason to doubt the history of the horn is true, there is no documentation that it was owned by Al Hirt. It has been cleaned and serviced in our shop and is ready for a new owner! A great piece of New Orleans music history!
