THIS ITEM FOR SALE DELIVERED IN THE UNITED STATES ONLY. Product Information Brand: Monette. Type: Bb Soprano Flugelhorn. Bore: Bore 0.459 (ML). Length W/O Mp 16 3/4. Mouthpiece: Monette FLPT 5 AW (Appears to be a trumpet shank) 3long. Monette Bb Soprano FLUGELHORN. Great Player, Excellent Condition, Gold Plate. According to Dave’s shop, David Monette made 2 flugelhorns in April of 1987. And did not make another until 2015. I play trumpet and cornet with a municipal brass band still. I have played flugelhorn since 1969, and have always had my Getzen 4 valve flugelhorn. I play Eb cornet in one of the bands I participate in, and Bb in a municipal band. This particular instrument is on consignment from a good friend who used to play in our Brass Band. I believe this is the “crowning jewel” of the collection. His flugelhorn (serial number 3XX) was produced by David Monette in Chicago in April of 1987, according to his shop. Dave only produced two flugelhorns, until they came out with their current model in 2015. I believe this was gold plated aftermarket. There is a flattened edge on the bell rim shown in the pictures enclosed, at about 7 o’clock as you look into the bell. I didn’t realize that until I was reviewing the pictures. There are a couple of tiny pinpoint dings on the inside of the bell bow at the inside of the rear branch (see pic 9), and there is some very minor rippling that can be felt in that area. Vandivere of Caprock brass and I examined that and believe it is an artifice of the bell manufacturing when it was drawn into the bend. Playing this instrument is a delight. It is a ML bore (similar to the Getzen Eterna 4 valve I have played since 1971). The smaller bore flugs tend to have a much “softer” attack than the ML bore flugs. This flug does have a little more distinct attack, but not nearly as strong as the Getzen, IMHO. The tone is delightfully dark and rich. The Mouthpiece shank is a close to a trumpet shank, but a bit shorter. The slotting is pretty tight. It doesn’t “move” for me like most flugs will. You will probably need to use the third slide to lower the low D and C#. This instrument has been cleaned and flushed by Caprock Brass, the slide tubes polished for improved fit and action, and properly lubed with Hetmann’s #2 oil and slide grease, the valve fit is good and compression is great. This instrument is in functionally and cosmetically EXCELLENT condition. The case is the very nice Orly French Made trumpet/Flugelhorn case, in very good condition. The original Monette FLPT 6 AW. THIS DESCRIPTION IS AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE. THE INSTRUMENT WILL BE PROPERLY PACKED, AND INSURED FOR THE SALE PRICE. I WILL NOT insure this instrument for less than the sale price.
