Rare Benge LA , CALIFORNIA 6 BELL LARGE BORE! AWESOME HORN FOR BACK TO SCHOOL / JAZZ COLLEGE PROGRAM ETC.. Horn is used in great overall shape. It appears that it’s been stripped to raw brass and brass is starting to develop nice darker patina. Serial range is #31xxx. L stamped on 2 valve casing other side from serial. Don’t see dents. Spotted one ding below bell pipe not far from bell engraving. What I see that possibly brace towards the player has been reinforced , there is a mark above bell engraving near front price which appears to be a mandrel mark line / it is not a crack it’s just a very slight elevated line / It’s hard to notice unless looked for. Valves have awesome compression and to me these appear to be replated recently as these appear to be in the breaking point process so these needs to be cleaned often and re oiled. I personally washed this horn recently but due to valves breaking its good idea to wash from time to time at this period of time. It also appears that previous owner changed tuning slide water key to amado water key which is very good as you won’t have to change cork ever again! Leadpipe is very good and everything appears to be original. This horn plays very nice but it still does have some resistance to blow against. I believe that’s how Mr Benge designed it. How could you possibly play all these high notes if you have nothing to blow against? I guess this makes sense. Horn has no case on photos but if you wish to have Benge case with this horn I do have one in good shape available and can include.
