1927 Conn New Wonder Chu Tenor Sax/Saxophone, Silver, Rolled, Plays Great
This is a rare and desirable example of an original silver-plated vintage Conn New Wonder II Chu Berry tenor saxophone manufactured in 1927, #M198XXX. His sax is in well-worn used condition with plenty of wear and scratching from many years of playing, but everything works great, and it is set up to good playing adjustment on pads around midlife or a bit older, with necessary recent replacements. A Selmer-style thumbrest and additional neckstrap ring are added and the thumbrest and octave key are modified for easier action. There is an extension on the high D# key. The work is solid and professional. This sax blows very easily and projects very strongly with a warm vintage edge. Near-mint condition (very late-run “VIII”) 1945 C. Conn 6M “VIII” aka… Standard, artist model, Naked Lady, lady face, lady on the bell, pentagon etc. The Conn 6M has always been regarded as one of the best saxophones ever made. The early 6Ms with the Conn (RTH) Rolled Tone Holes, plus the limited edition stamped “VIII” (on both body & neck), plus the rare silver-plating with gold-washed inner bell is known to be the “best of the best”, and most desirable edition of the 6M. The silver plating (98%+) is in mint condition. No silver pitting issues. The original key plating is also really clean and uncorroded. Here’s hardly any noticeable silver rubbing-off wear on this one! As you can see the prominent Naked Lady engraving is sharp and clean. Minor scratches/dings that are common for this vintage (see photos). Original Conn key pearls and the original Conn pearl rollers! Nice (far better than most) condition for its 75 years of age, and the unmistakable Conn pinky table keys are in good alignment – unlike a lot of other 6Ms. Double-socketed neck; no evidence of pull-down; some dings (see photos); fully operational Conn micro-tuner adjuster; the 6M sax has a completely unique & sleek neck design with the hidden underslung octave key. Both the sax body AND the neck are stamped “VIII” on this one… It is crucial to have both to be an authentic limited edition. Rolled tone holes – a unique feature and they are much easier on the key pads. Good leather pads with Conn appropriate metal resonators. Silver-plated Conn saxophones are valued significantly higher, and are known to resonate & sound superior. Plays very well, in tune, with that awesome resonant Conn sound. Silver plated professional vintage saxophones – especially ones this clean – really stand out from the crowd, both visually and sonically. You’ll be hard pressed to find another all-original silver-plated Conn 6M VIII that is this clean! First come, first served… On’t miss this stunningly beautiful and unmodified original Conn 6M VIII silver-plated Naked Lady. Includes a non-original case (not pictured) and it will be packed well with care. 1932 Conn Chu Transitional Tenor Sax/Saxophone, Rolled Toneholes, Plays Great
This is a great-playing example of a vintage Chu New Wonder II transitional tenor saxophone manufactured in 1932, #M249XXX, when Conn was manufacturing their greatest saxes. His sax is in well-used condition for it’s age, and it is set up to good playing adjustment with older but still flexible pads, mostly metal dome resonator-type, with necessary replacements. Scratches for it’s age, and some repaired dents in it’s worn vintage relaquer finish. There is a resoldered neck tenon as seen in photos #3, #7 and #8, no effect on the sound. Several resoldered posts including the neck brace, study the photos carefully. This sax blows with a lush vintage sound.
