Also offered is an good condition original Martin #8 silver-plated mouthpiece. The bore size measured on the 2nd valve slide measures. The bell diameter measures 4.75. The original silver plating is in excellent condition with minimal plating loss. The gold wash interior of the of bell end bell is slightly worn(see picture) but almost unnoticeable and hard to picture. The instrument has been chem cleaned and thoroughly cleaned inside and out. The horn was ultrasonically cleaned as well. All new valve stem corks and felts. The 3rd valve finger ring adjustment moves freely without drag. Excellent valve speed and compression. The instrument features a reverse leadpipe configuration and compares to the Martin Committee Handcraft of the next generation in Martin trumpets. The upper leg of the main tuning slides has a unique stop rod(see pictures). Anyone who follows the Martin Committee line of trumpets(including myself) look for with great hope of someday finding that holy grail Martin Committee Handcraft large bore trumpet or for that matter any bore size Committee Handcraft of that era. The Martin Imperial Handcraft trumpet was the top of the line pro trumpet before the Committee was introduced. I could not wait to re-furbish the horn to get the results of what flavor of sound this horn could produce. I was blown away by its volume of sound and intonation. Here is an interesting fact I just learned from acquiring this instrument. A Martin Committee Handcraft medium bore (serial # 136XXX) manufactured in 1941of which I personally own is 100% identical in all aspects other than the engraving obviously. All slides, valves, etc. So it would be a stretch to say that this Imperial Handcraft offered here could be that missing link possibly as the models changed from Imperial to Committee during that time period. Side by side and played one after the other I find a remarkable resemblence in all sound characteristics. For collectors having a hard time finding replacement parts for a Martin Commitee Handcraft now you know a little secret. I would love to hear any opinions on my last statement. It will be clean, shiny, sanitized, valves oiled, slides lubricated and ready to play right out of the box.
