Legends Brass HEIM 2. The Legendary Heim 2. The history of this piece is convoluted and sometimes vague. There was once a trumpet mouthpiece used by the legendary Gustav Heim (Principal Trumpet for The New York Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and many others in the early 1900’s). Among Gustat’s students was the legendary Miles Davis, who used this piece, or something similar, for most of his career. All of the legends and vague references converge on some points, though. These mouthpieces were designed for the consummate jazz player, with even and smooth response in any register. The sound produced has a very lyrical quality. The rim shape is flat and very thin, but comfortable. The cup is V shaped, sometimes described as similar to a flugel cup. The Legends Heim 2 is a modern creation that preserves the original qualities of the Heim 2 rim and cup. An open throat (#25) and backbore (Legends Chicago) have been added to really make this model work for a versatile, improv jazz sound. In addition, the Legends Big Daddy blank adds mass. To further darken the sound and broaden the core. This is a mouthpiece which preserves the sought-after vintage elements of rim and cup, but adds modern throat, backbore, and blank to maximize playability and sound for the modern jazz trumpeter. Perfect for the beginning musician or as a second horn. Do you want to deal with a dirty instrument with stuck or damaged slides or valves? A “used” or “preowned” instrument may cost much more to get back to playing condition. Read below how this horn was serviced. Looking for multiple instruments for your students? All reconditioned horns from start to finish receive. Hot water rinse, and body and slides thoroughly brushed. Upper and Lower valve chambers polished. Threads cleaned on horn body and the top and bottom caps. Small parts hand detailed. Horn body trued as needed, hand torqued at all solder joints for strength, braces checked and repaired as needed. Tail, taper, flair and leadpipe dents and major dings removed when easily accessible. Valve chamber area knuckle dings removed if accessible. Female slide receivers dry scrubbed with firm brush, male slides polished, gap between valve body and threads cleaned. Valves hand lapped from top and bottom when accessible. Valve chambers and valves checked for proper fit during lapping. Horn body is then hot water triple rinsed and scrubbed. Slides dry scrubbed with firm brush, polished and checked for proper fit and feel, any fit issues mentioned in listing. Slides hot water rinsed, accessible dents and dings removed. Horn and valves assembled, all interfaces and parts lubed. Al Cass Fast used on ALL valves. Play tested and checked for valve action, slide fit, leaks, and slotting (after regular use, valves should fit to the lapped chamber and get faster). Original mouthpieces are usually included, checked for receiver fit, cleaned and polished (most vintage mouthpieces have blemishes). Horn is then wiped clean and or hand polished. Cases opened, aired out, disinfected, vacuumed, sometimes minor repairs are completed (Note, some old cases will have residual smell). Horns are photographed, disassembled and checked for proper fit again. Remember vintage horns have sometimes been sitting for a very long time, you as an instrument owner should clean your instrument regularly. AS-IS Condition Vintage & Antique Instruments. Many vintage instruments have had solder and other repair work done in the past and many have sat for sometimes decades and even after thorough cleaning, more extended cleaning and fit work may be needed. The lacquer is 90+% intact. NO DEEP DENTS OR BENDS. Valves and slides move smooth and freely – 1st valve slide trigger works great. Legends Brass CAT MASTER. The Cat Master is based on a scan of a vintage mouthpiece played by the legendary Cat Anderson. The rim and cup are identical to the original, which was created by mouthpiece craftsman Charlie Allen. The inside rim diameter is. 585, with the high point on the inner side and sloping outward. The cup is an extra shallow (similar to Bach F) bowl. The throat is a tight #30 with a sharp shoulder going into the backbore. The backbore is the Legends Manhattan, which is very focused. Legends Brass FUNKIN SCREAMIN. The Funkin Screamin has a wide, medium flat rim that is rounded on the inside. It is a comfortable rim that is wide enough to offset lip swelling. There is a high alpha angle going into the cup, with no undercut for chop room. It’s going to feel like the. 590 inside diameter it is. The cup is a shallow V, and the entrance to the throat is very receptive for plenty of air flow and a nice big sound. For those familiar with the Legends Funkin Groovin, this model is very similar, but has a smaller inside diameter. This mouthpiece is well suited for “screamin’ high above the staff”!
