Photos are 2500 X 2500. Serial number 320520 dates the horn to 1947. Old lacquer refinish has scratches but overall is in good condition. The refinish was well done. Careful buffing left the tone holes undamaged and the engraving crisp and sharp (for a refin). Pads are soft, not discolored or deteriorated, but are old. I don’t play sax so I can’t comment further the pad’s condition. Best to assume the pads need replacing. The body has some very small, shallow dings, nothing large or deep. The neck is a little worse. It has small dents as well, the octave key posts are slightly pushed in, and the angle has been bent lower, either on purpose or from damage. Are engraved in small font below the serial number. The case smells pretty bad, otherwise in excellent condition. It appears to be old but not old enough to be original. Includes sax and case. Standard, artist model, Naked Lady, lady face, lady on the bell, etc. The Conn 10M has always been regarded as one of the best saxophones ever made. The golden-honey finish is in good condition, plus normal wear. As you can see the prominent Naked Lady engraving is quite visible and a beauty. Minor scratches/dents/dings that are common for this vintage (see photos). Original Conn key pearls and the rollers appear to also be pearl. Nice, better than most condition (for its over 75 years of age), and the incomparably-distinct Conn pinky table keys are in perfect alignment – unlike a lot of other 10Ms. Rolled tone holes – a unique feature and they are much easier on the key pads. The new pads are upgraded with seamless domed metal resonators (for better projection). It plays very well, in tune, with that awesome resonant Conn sound! Dexter Gordon played a Conn 10M… First come, first served… Don’t miss this beautiful, player’s horn Conn 10M Naked Lady. Vintage saxophones this rare and special don’t come along every day, make an offer.. Perfect time to play a killer sax! As with any vintage instrument adjustments are to be expected. Includes a case in fair condition and it will be packed well. All Keys work properly. It has some minor damage/scratches on the bottom(see last photo), aside from that it is in pretty good condition. The case for the instrument has more wear on it than the actual instrument. There is some fraying on the fabric part where the hinges are on the case. Check out my other items. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. His listing is for a vintage Conn 6M’Naked Lady’ alto saxophone. The serial number is 315, xxx, and it is stamped “L” for low pitch. Is a 1st generation 6M, made in 1946. This was Conn’s glory days. It was an era in which most all of the dance bands saxophone sections played Conns all across the front line. This horn features rolled tone holes, a G# trill key, and a micro-tuner neck with a. N underslung octave key. This sax is in very good physical condition. The body is perfectly straight. There are a few very minor pings/nicks, but no significant dents or dings. The key-guards are all straight. I don’t see any re-soldered joints The neck has not been pulled down. It’s double tenons are round and true, and the micro-tuner is turning. The keywork is all moving freely, and all of the locking screws are present. The lacquer is original, but well worn/spotted, as you can see. I would say it is about 75% intact. As far as playability, it does play top to bottom, but it isn’t in optimum playing condition. The pads are old, and there are adjustment issues. A leak light inspection reveals leaks on many of the pads. Some of the leaks disappear as finger pressure is increased from light to medium or heavy, but not all do. As I said, it does play as is, so you can at least get a sense of its potential. To that end, I made a short demo video, linked below. See the product in action. This sax comes in a nice modern Protec brand case/gig bag. It is soft sided, but has a lot more padding than a typical gig bag. The exterior is canvas. There is one huge pocket on the exterior that can fit lots of accessories (probably even some sax stands, depending on how compact they fold down), and a smaller pocket that is good for an additional mouthpiece. There is also a special bag for stowing a mouthpiece and the neck in the sax bell. I don’t have the shoulder strap for the case, but any generic one will do. The case is clean and odor free inside. With a proper overhaul, this will be a fantastic player that will beat the socks off of any modern horn of comparable price. There are reasons why people still seek these old Conns out, even after 70+ years. They were made to last, and possess a tonal richness that you just don’t find in modern horns. Please feel free to message me with any questions! Thanks again for looking! The item “VINTAGE c. 1946 CONN 6M NAKED LADY ALTO SAXOPHONE 1ST GEN. I’ve owned and played the horn for around three years but just not getting the use these days so time for someone who will play it to have it. I had a mechanical restoration including all pads done 2 years ago by Tim’s Music in Sacramento. They did a first class job and it plays well. Lacquer is in good shape – usual player wear. Engraving is clear and sharp. Its got a really nice tone and blows freely throug all registers. Its in the original Conn case. CONN 10M Vintage Tenor Sax Pre war metal #2659xx Dexter Gordon Naked Lady
Vintage 10M Tenor Saxophone Serial #2659xx – A real Dexter Gordon horn with a meaty G to G midrange. Top end is more controlled sounding, like a Mark VI. My other 10s are throatier sounding. This one has a more refined sound on the top and bottom, which makes it easier to blend with a big band sax section. Conns can be a little unruly on the top end but not this one. I think it’s a real nice compromise. A meaty mid range sound that gets attention with a clear concise top end. That really sounds better than the vast majority of 10Ms. There is one re-sodder on the bell to body brace. Sodder is visible on the bell. Les realigned a larger comfier. And the sling hook has been lowered two inches. Les does that to most Conn tenors. So any alterations were done by Les Arbuckle. I believed he owned this for awhile. There are no dents or damage / noticeable repairs that I could spot. Pictures will tell the story! Regular maintenance has been performed by sax tech and virtuoso Manny Varela of Miami. He plays with Paquito D’ Rivera’s band and with his Keyboard playing son’s band in NYC. I asked Manny to replace all the metal resonators on most all the pads except for the G, F, E and low D pads. It seems to have given the horn this hybrid sound I was looking for. See what you think. On Conns, I love using metal resonators. I have used hard rubber pads in the upper register for over 10 years. Les Arbuckle in California loves trying out new ideas. He’s got plenty of cool suggestions. It plays like and I beleive is original lacquer. I will get some more opinions. I pack well and mark ” FRAGILE GLASS ” on the box. Comes with a Ritter soft sax case. The pads in the upper register are leather but I have used hard rubber on my soprano for over ten years. I encourage you to experiment. As you well know. Mouthpiece and necks can make a night and day difference in your sound. Adjusting pad heights slightly can also make a world of difference. Lubricating old Conn horns regularly can make a world of difference. They were designed to lubricate regularly. These are different animals compared the quality controlled manufactured horns of today. It’s shocking how consistent the way a lot of new horns sound. That said , the personality in these old 10M’s is immediate to feel and recognize. They are not as consistent but each one appears to have it’s own personality and and strengths. The quality of the metal used in pre WWII Conns is so resonant. Conn employed real artisans to assemble horns in their rolled tone hole ” glory years “. They were always experimenting and that is why these old horns have a personality and mystique of their own. The joy for me over the years has been appreciating and realizing the artistry involved. For instance, Selmer and Conn fans flip out when they. Find out about ” SML ” horns which were designed to employ the best features of each brand. I love them but ended up being more comfy with my old Conns and Selmers. Thank heavens , the science in making reeds for us finally seems to have arrived at a ” zenith “. Reed technology has exploded. People would always ask me what are you going play next? My standard reply was whatever horn has the best reed! It always got laughs but was true. Those days are over. The feature photo or 1st photo of this horn is of a transitional horn and not a 10M. All the other pictures are correct! I have called quite a few times to have it removed. No luck as yet. My apologies for the error. Working too many hours without sleep. Please disregard the 1st picture of this horn. It is not the 10M. Very sorry and embarrassed about this but I’m a 24/7 caregiver to my wife these last two weeks. She has 2 broken legs. I have been trying to get image removed with no luck the iast few days. Last notice to buyers! Please disregard the 1st or featured picture of this horn. It is of another older Conn and not the one for sale. I assume because of health concerns. The service and help centers are not opening up to allow me to remove the picture. It is a special 10M that plays more like a Selmer in the top end which seems to allow for a faster technique. Yes I will sweeten the deal because of my mistake. The item “CONN 10M Vintage Tenor Sax Pre war metal #2659xx Dexter Gordon Naked Lady” is in sale since Wednesday, October 14, 2020. 1951 Conn 10m Tenor Sax/Saxophone, Naked Lady Engraving, New Pads, Plays Great
This is a great-playing example of a desirable vintage Conn 10m tenor saxophone manufactured in 1951, #345XXX, with a complete new set of mostly flat metal resonator pads. His sax is in well-worn used condition with plenty of wear and scratching from many years of playing, the vintage laquer is dark and looks original considering the sharp engraving. It is set up to very good playing adjustment on new flat metal resonator and some rivet pads, h. This sax blows very easily with a strong vintage edge.
