Check out my other items. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. For those of you who may not be familiar, Frank is a true heavy hitter in the jazz world and has been featured on multiple Grammy winning albums. He is also the quintessential gear hound, having amassed a collection of over 500 mouthpieces! He now endorses and plays Jody Jazz mouthpieces exclusively so he is purging some of his massive collection of mouthpieces he has acquired over many years, as well as other random gear. Be sure to check out my other items for more great items from this collection. There will be more to come later, so add me to your favorites list and check back later to see new additions. Note to international buyers… His listing is for a vintage “The Martin” Committee III baritone saxophone body. There is no neck included. All of the keys and key guards are there though. The body is pretty dinged up. There are no huge dents, but tons of small ones. It has multiple ugly solder repairs to key guards, posts, the neck receiver, and the strap ring. The bracket for the original adjustable thumb rest is missing, so the hook is soldered directly to the body very odd! It looks like the body has a slight forward bend, although not enough to cause binding of the keys. The keys are all moving and rebounding freely. The pads actually look quite good. They appear to be relatively new. They are all matching, with plastic button style resonators, and they are very clean. I didn’t put a leak light in it though, so I don’t know how well they are sealing. The lacquer is original. It is probably 80% intact. It has beautiful detailed engraving. Obviously this horn is not in playing condition, but it could be restored to playing condition if you get a neck for it. Otherwise it could provide valuable parts for restoring other more viable examples. Again, this listing is for the body only (as shown). There is no neck, mouthpiece, case, nor any other accessories. Please feel free to message me with any questions! Thanks again for looking! Martin Committee III Tenor Saxophone, 1947, Recent Pads Complete, Plays Great
This is a great-playing example of a vintage Martin Committee III tenor saxophone, #163XXX, made in 1947 in Elkhart, Indiana at the peak quality of American saxophone production. Matching serial number on the neck. His sax has plenty of wear and scratching in it’s vintage relaquer finish, and 3 ot 4 post resolders, no effect on it’s great sound. Replacement thumbrest as see in photos 10 and 11. It is set up to good playing adjustment on a recent set of plastic dome resonator pads. This sax has a full, warm sound. The Martin Alto Saxophone Committee III (Vintage The Martin)
Up for sale is a Beautiful The Martin Committee III Alto Saxophone serial #206435 , this places the build year around 1959. This professional saxophone has a beautiful lush Martin tone – with a sharper edge to it than the earlier Committee`s. I have used it personally for a live gig recently in combination w a metal Berg L MP and it handled smooth. I usually play a Selmer Super Action II and this Martin horn is of the same pro level in my opinion. Sax looks clean and pads look like theyve recently been re-padded. Serial on the neck matches the serial of the body. Original lacquer looks like its 80-85 % intact(see pics)mostly because of tarnish on the bell. The engraving is still very visible, but the engraving part on the bell is also the place where lacquer has faded (see pic). There is a small but visible dent where the serial # is located (see pics). The instrument shows some signs of wear due to age(rust and tarnish) (see pics). I noticed that low B and Bb are tough to play I have to press the Spatula/left pinky keys with more force than should be necessary to close the low B & Bb tone holes, so the key mechanism will need adjusting of some sort. I advice to ask me more about this if you need more specifics. G# spring was replaced but I think it could still operate smoother than it currently does. It sounds lush but I have to work a little harder on the low E, D, so it might indicate the pads need to be overlooked to make sure there are no leaks. This sax is worth much more than the asking price, The low price is based on the flaws that are mentioned above. The instrument is Vintage, not New, so please see pictures for condition of instrument (dont hesitate to ask for more pics). If you have any questions about this instrument please message me. I`m a professional saxophonist living in Brooklyn, NY and hold a Masters degree in Alto Saxophone performance from the Amsterdam Conservatory. I DO NOT claim to be a mechanic, so can only tell you what I think the instrument needs from a players perspective. I specialize in Selmer Paris, Martin and CONN models and have over 20 years professional experience as a saxophone player. Feel free to contact me about this instrument; unfortunately Im limited to 12 pictures for this post, but I can make pictures of this sax on request if you require a more detailed understanding of the instruments condition. Martin Committee III Tenor Saxophone 200XXX, 1956, Original Laquer, Plays Great
This is a great example of a Martin Committee III tenor saxophone #200XXX with it’s original laquer finish. It was manufactured in 1956 in Elkhart, Indiana USA, at a peak period of quality. His sax is set up to good playing adjustment on older pads, h. Speckling, scratches in it’s original vintage finish, considering the age of this sax and the ornate engraving is sharp and clear. About 6 post resolders, and the tenon on the neck is resoldered as seen best in photos 6 and 7, no effect on the great sound. This sax has a warm vintage sound and strong edge and presence. Comes without a case but this. The item “Martin Committee III Tenor Saxophone 200XXX, 1956, Original Laquer, Plays Great” is in sale since Sunday, August 4, 2019. Here’s an exceptional Martin Committee trumpet. The valves are tight with excellent compression and are smooth. All slides are free. The horn is in raw brass and has started to turn the old brass color. This is the medium bore. I have owned 9 of these down through the years and this one plays better than them all. It comes with the case, mutes and gold plated Martin Mouthpiece. This one is from the personal collection of J geiles. The trumpet is 70 years old so it’s not perfect. It is used but not abused. Serial number in the 170,000 range. The little screw for the 3rd finger ring is missing and will need replaced. Martin Trumpet Lge Bore Committee #3 Beautiful Horn On Sale Reduced Price
Today I have for sale an RMC Martin Committee Large #3 Bore in a silver finish. For those of you that already know the Martin Committee story, this will be old news, but for those of you that have never had the pleasure to play a vintage Martin Committee, particularly one of the far more rare large bore Committees, this will be new to you. In 1939, a “Committee” of some of the finest symphony trumpet players, along with Renold Schilke, Foster Reynolds, Elden Benge, and Vincent Bach – all of whom went on to design and manufacture their own lines of trumpets, met to collaborate on what was to be the ultimate trumpet. That same year, the Martin Band Instrument Company built this design and named it the “Martin Committee” after the name of the committee that designed this fine instrument. When the Martin Committee first entered the jazz scene in the early 1940’s, almost every professional trumpeter that you can name played the famous Martin Committee. The horn was made famous by Miles Davis, who played Martin Committees until they were no longer manufactured, and contracted with Martin to continue to build the Committee model just for him. And Miles was not alone. Chet Baker, Maynard Ferguson, Roy Eldridge, Lee Morgan, Dizzy Gillespie, Conti Candoli, and an international host of other trumpet professionals played the Martin Committee. It has been said that just about the only professional player who did NOT play the Martin Committee was Clifford Brown, who played a Blessing Super Artist. Throughout the golden age of jazz, through the 1940’s, 1950’s, and the 1960’s, the Martin Committee was considered THE HORN for trumpet playing professionals. Much later, trumpeter Chris Botti bought a vintage 1939 Martin Committee Handcraft (the horn he still plays to this very day by the way) and found that the Martin Committee had the lush, deep, smoky, honey dipped sound that one just could not duplicate in a modern horn, and has made the Martin Committee famous all over again. I have owned many vintage Martin Committees. My first horn was a beautiful 1946 Martin Committee medium bore. I then was lucky enough to find a 1948 Martin Committee Deluxe if the Large #3 bore, AND a 1960 Martin Committee Large #3 bore. Along the way, I was fortunate enough to acquire several different Martin Committee trumpets. The medium bore Committees are very nice playing horns, don’t get me wrong, but the very best playing horns are the LARGE BORE horns, and they are very hard to come by. What is an RMC Committee? The Martin Band Instrument Company changed hands over the years, and RMC, which some claim to represent as the “Roundtable of Musical Craftsmen” was actually the Richards Music Company, that had recently taken over the Martin Company. Some say that the RMC Martin Committees didn’t have the same sound as the original Martin Committees, but I just don’t believe that. Having owned at least 6 large bore Committees (1 Handcraft Committee, 3 regular large bore Committees, 1 Deluxe large bore Committee, and 1 RMC Committee), I can truthfully say that this horn, this RMC Committee plays superbly and has a sound like my other Committees, that unmistakable, smoky, dark, honey dipped sound that the Martin Committee is well known for. T hese are very fine playing instruments and they are no longer made! It took me years of searching to be able to find a large bore Committee in good shape. Don’t sleep on this great horn, or it will be gone! The item “MARTIN TRUMPET LGE BORE COMMITTEE #3 BEAUTIFUL HORN ON SALE REDUCED PRICE” is in sale since Monday, November 26, 2018. Martin Elkhart, Ind Tuba 6/4 4 Valve. One of a kind horn. One piece, the bell does not detach and there are no screws. You will be hard pressed to find another 6/4 BBb bat that plays like a martin. Easy to play as well. Used at past veterans and Memorial Day services and cant say enough about this tremendous horn. It has the leadpipe on the side of the horn like a nirschl york. Fast valves and rebound. This horn makes the room shake with its tremendous and powerful sound. All the slides move freely and the valves It has had some dents throughout and has had some bell work. If you are local and want to try this horn please message me. No case or mouthpiece included. The last photo is a comparison of my Walter Nirschl York 6/4 next to the Martin for size comparison. I’ve owned and performed on this trumpet since 2010. Originally it was one of those blue Committees. This horn was a custom made one with the added engraving all up the bell and its even got a name,’Damon’ on the side. These modern Martin Committees are larger than the older ones and not made anymore. Production stopped in the late 2000s. I stripped most of the paint off mainly to try and darken the tone of the instrument and IT WORKS! There is something about the paint these modern Martins had that gave them a brighter sound… The horn plays really unique and well. It’s actually a great all rounder. I love using this instrument not only for improvisational music but also for more classical stuff. I used it for Aida last year and it was wonderful due to the centred and complex sound it can make. Of course its a great jazz/ commercial /latin horn as well. The valves are very fast and smooth and the trumpet has excellent response. The horn comes used but in great working order. Firstly the paint is still on about 1 % of the instrument so if this bothers you you could either get it done by a repairman in an afternoon or do it yourself again in an afternoon its as easy as some boiling water on the spot… The bell pipe at the main crook is bent approx 0.8 cm towards the mouthpiece receiver. Again this is only ascetic and does not impact one bit on the playability of the instrument/ no pressure was put on the valve casings so I haven’t ever bothered to get it taken back but I have it on good authority that the process is not very difficult. There are some dark red tarnish marks only on the reverse tuning slide only. I saw a repairman yesterday who has assured me that this isn’t serious and is just a part of the process of ageing of the brass so nothing to be concerned about. So if you want a great playing and unique Martin for a fraction of the price of one of the old ones get it! I will also throw in a solid case and a mouthpiece (I have a collection so you can have a pick of few).
