C. G. Conn Tenor Sax 1927 Silver Plated
This sax was built by C. It has been with me the past 17 years and has been through a lot. It is a road warrior! The condition is good and it plays great in all the registers. It was repaired last year when I went to Europe to play an engagement. It was silver plated at some point by the previous owner. The octave key thumb rest was replaced. I had a second neck strap ring installed. This way the player adjust the height when playing. The right hand thumb rest was replaced with a new style one similar to Yamaha or Selmer. It has the rolled tone holes. The pads are leather with metal resonators. The sound this sax makes is amazing. The saxophone blends with other instruments and vocalists just great. It has been around more than 90 years and a gorgeous golden brown patina that now shines through the silver color. It comes with a well worn Reunion Blues Continental case. You can see in the pictures, it has a tear on the outside. Also the pouch on the outside is torn. The main zippers on the outside work well. There is a rain jacket that is included. Ask me any questions please. The item “C. G. Conn Tenor Sax 1927 Silver Plated” is in sale since Monday, March 30, 2020. Check out my other items. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. For those of you who may not be familiar, Frank is a true heavy hitter in the jazz world and has been featured on multiple Grammy winning albums. He is also the quintessential gear hound, having amassed a collection of over 500 mouthpieces! He now endorses and plays Jody Jazz mouthpieces exclusively so he is purging some of his massive collection of mouthpieces he has acquired over many years, as well as other random gear. Be sure to check out my other items for more great items from this collection. There will be more to come later, so add me to your favorites list and check back later to see new additions. His listing is for a vintage Conn 12M’Naked Lady baritone saxophone. The serial number 566, xxx indicates a c. It does currently play top to bottom, but it would require some work to be in tip top playing condition. The pads are in pretty good condition overall. There are definitely some that are on their last legs, but many others look almost brand new. I haven’t checked it for leaks. I’m sure there are some, but overall it feels like things are sealing up pretty good. There are definitely issues with the body and neck though, most of which are primarily cosmetic, but some of which should be fixed if you want to play it. The body looks to have a forward’banana’ bend, which is quite common. Since it is not causing keys to bind, that is something that doesn’t necessarily need to be fixed. The neck has some pull down, and small pings. The neck receiver has some stress cracks, which may be causing leaks. I would advise replacing it. The body has LOTS of little dings and pings. It kind of looks like it got hit with a shot gun blast! This is pretty much purely cosmetic. Same goes for a flattened spot on the bottom of the bow, and the lip of the bell, which is bent down slightly. There are also some pushed in key guard feet, and re-soldered joints. Lastly, it is missing all of its rollers and roller screws, so you will want to replace those. They were pilfered for another project because they were original Conn mother of pearl rollers. You could replace them with standard plastic ones to save on costs though. This horn comes in its original case. The case is in rather poor condition. A lot of the exterior covering has come off. It has a makeshift replacement handle. There is no mouthpiece, nor any other accessories included with this sax. This would be a good horn for someone who wants a vintage Conn, but doesn’t have the budget right now for a primo example. Please feel free to message me with any questions! Thanks again for looking! Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. Here is a 1949 Conn 2B “New World Symphony” trumpet (Serial Number 386618). The bore of the horn is medium at. 458 (Conn #1 1/2 bore). The bell is 4 5/8. Here is what Conn said at the time. The 2-B New World Symphony Model has been reinstated in the line by popular request. Ever since it was discontinued several years ago, there has been a constant clamor for it. Now the 2-B is back, but it has been modernized mechanically. It now has the famous Clickless Crysteel valves and an improved trigger on the first valve. It still has its wonderful one-piece bell, which is largely responsible for its great power and brilliance. It is still made in medium-large bore, which is the bore so many symphony men and dance men in the larger orchestras prefer. Great trumpeters everywhere will welcome back this great instrument, and those who did not know it in the old days will find a great thrill when they play it. Built in Bb and A. The 2B was discontinued in 1932, and was replaced by the Conn 8B Symphony Grand “Gustat”. In 1940 the 8B was then replaced by the 2B once again, but the new 2B was identical to the old 8B in almost every way. The most interesting design feature of these horns is the expanding air column through the valve cluster which Conn achieved by making the bore of valves two and three. 458, while the bore of valve 1 is in. In 1949 Conn combined the two models together to make the 28B Connstellation, and soon after the 2B “New World Symphony” was gone for good. This horn looks beautiful and plays very well. The valves have very good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few small dings and some light scratching throughout the horn. The bell engraving is in excellent shape, and t. He text of the engraving reads “C G Conn Ltd/ USA/ Elkhart-IND”. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. His horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now–if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This trumpet comes with a somewhat worn case and a mouthpiece in good condition. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop. Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. Here is a 1925 (serial number 229902) Conn 22B “New York Symphony” trumpet. This horn was one of the finest trumpets being made anywhere in the world during the 1920s. Visually, this horn is in very good condition. Unfortunately, the horn has been played professionally for many, many years and the valves need to be rebuilt. This is a real shame, because the horn looks so good. This horn deserves to have its valves rebuilt so it can be played again. The bore of the horn is. 438 (Conn #1 bore). The bell is 4 1/2. The engraving is crisp and clear, and reads MADE BY/ C. The valves move well and the slides all move of course. The original leadpipe and main tuning slide have both been worn out, and both have been replaced. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few small dings and pings as well as a few areas of light scratching in the silver plate. There are also a few areas where the silver plate has worn through to the brass underneath, but this is not bad at all and the silver finish is still in great condition. The parts on the horn that have been replaced are finished in polished yellow brass. This trumpet does not come with a case or a mouthpiece. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop. This old saxophone has been well taken care of but does have some wear. I had it checked out by a saxophone technician. He did tell me that the pads are original and will probably need to be replaced. He played it and to me, it sounded beautiful, but a couple of the notes did not sound perfect. There are NO dents. I’m sure with some TLC It can be brought back to life. The case is in very nice condition. It will be packaged with great care. The item “C. G. I like to remain objective, but the viewer needs to know, this horn is a great player from top to bottom. The slide is very smooth. As both a woodwind player and a brass player of many years, this is a tremendous horn that shows only very minor cosmetic deficiencies. The serial number is, I believe, 4338982 followed by perhaps one more number, but it appears almost more like a degree symbol. It’s a bit worn in this area and it is a bit difficult to read. This is wear the slide nut lock goes and of course, it wears there. It would appear the trigger may have, at one time, had some damage to it that has been, it appears, professionally repaired. Please see that photo. There are some other areas of lacquer wear and corrosion that I tried to capture in photos as well. The case is in good, functional condition. All hinges and latches work. The handles are firm. The item “C. G. Conn 88H LT Trigger Tenor F-Attachment Trombone with Case” is in sale since Monday, February 3, 2020.
